The Rotary Club of High Suffolk supported the Stroke Association "National Know Your Blood Pressure" campaign, in Debenham.
April 2013 - Stroke Association Blood Pressure Day.
Once again, the club was an active supporter of the National Know Your Blood Pressure day, supporting the campaign of the Stroke Association.
A stroke happens when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off and brain cells are damaged or die. According to World Health Organisation statistics, Stroke is the second biggest killer in the world, and most of us know how debilitating it can be for those who don't die.
Members of the club spent the morning of Saturday 20th April standing outside Debenham Pharmacy, pursuading passers-by to have their blood pressure checked. A total of 45 people were checked, and amost 50% were advised to talk to their GP. Of these, 3 people were advised to contact their GP immediately.
The club is very grateful to Mary Scott (and friend Shirley! for organising the day, to Mr. Mitul Patel for providing free use of the Pharmacy consulting room, and especially to Marie Clarkson who did the testing, almost non-stop for 4 hours!
