District Conference, Plymouth 10th, 11th, 12th
Another excellent conference attended by 75% of our membership.
It was fortunate that the weather on the trip down wasn't what we would have to look forward to over the weekend. We had dry and beautiful sunny weather over Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Our conference events commenced on Friday afternoon with a win for Ernie Gunner and Tony Yarwood in the District 1150 Conference Bowls Competition, winning The Sphinx Plate. This was then followed, on the evening, with a victory in the fancy dress competition with all 15 of a party dressed as characters from Harry Potter. Hogwarts will never be the same.
The business of the Conference, over Saturday and Sunday, had the balance of information, humour and real life inspiration. This led to the final trophy that Aberaron A'r Cylch won, The Gordon Edwards Shield, for the best club attendance. Our Club has now won the attendance shield for the last 6 years and has won 7 times of the 11 times that it has been awarded.
Next year is Llandudno, so let us see if it is possible to get everyone there.

High Sheriff's Commendation for Local Rotarian
Rotarian Malcolm Sumner of the Rotary Club of Aberaeron A'r Cylch was presented with an award for exceptional services to the community by John T Davies, High Sheriff of Dyfed, at an awards ceremony that was held at The Cliff Hotel in Gwbert, Cardigan on Saturday 22nd March, 2014.
This well deserved award was in recognition of Malcolm's work in his local village, Pennant, near Llanon within the Community Group and Charity 'Cymuned'. Malcolm is a hard working central figure in the Pennant village group and was involved in taking over the village school for the community when it closed in 2009. He joined the Aberaeron Rotary Club in 2009 and will take over as its President in July this year.
Malcolm has said that Cymuned is by no means a one-man operation. There is a loyal, dedicated team that has been involved for more than four years.
The regular and unsung supporters include a Ceredigion County Councillor, several village members, five Rotarians and a Director of Age Cymru.
The High Sheriff's Award recognises the appreciation of the residents of Pennant for the contribution in enhanciing the life of the community.
