GUEST EVENING - 'A Celebration of Robert Burns'

Wed, Jan 29th 2014 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am

Our photo shows chairman for the evening Robert Menzies enjoying music and songs from Roy Cook and Jim Goodbrand

Rather than a formal Burns Supper the Club held a 'Celebration of Robert Burns' at Currie Rugby Club. The evening was chaired by Past President Robert Menzies who began the evening by welcoming Partners and Guests. This was followed by a well researched 'Tribute to Robert Burns' by President Roy Stirrat in which he covered much of the life of the Bard.

The haggis was enthusiastically addressed and dissected by Jim Goodbrand. Recitations were given by Allan Maclaughlan (To a Turnip) and by Mary Maclaughlan (To a Mouse)

Pupils from Dean Park School presented by Pam Watson were Fraser Caldwell who played a Burns selection on the cello, Charlotte Murdoch who sang 'My Love is like a Red Red Rose' and Clara Jones who gave an animated rendering of 'To a Louse'.

Further musical entertainment was provided by Roy Cook and Jim Goodbrand with their guitars including a vigorous rendering of 'Killicrankie'.

The evening finished with a vote of thanks to all the performers by chairman Robert and the traditional 'Auld Lang Syne'.
