Having worked in a senior position in manufacturing on both sides of the Atlantic for the aviation industry, Gareth spoke with some authority on whether this was indeed "The Golden Age of Aviation?"
He confirmed that the commercial sector was indeed very buoyant, with record passenger numbers, load factors and aircraft production. However the Military sector was in decline, with associated reductions in R and D investment which traditionally has fed into the commercial sector. Finally the Business and General sector , which is much smaller, was very static - apparently a good time to buy a low mileage private jet!
His very professional presentation concluded by looking forwards. He noted that the commercial sector historically was always cyclical, and could suffer from reduced technology innovation from the Military sector. |He also saw COMAC growing to challenge the dominance of Boeing and Airbus.
