Speaker - Emeritus Professor Michael King will talk about obtaining Shale Gases using the Fracking process

Professor Michael S. King

Emeritus Professor Michael S. King is Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Earth Science & Engineering at Imperial College London.

He will be discussing the background for natural gas (predominantly methane) production from shale and tight sands; where these gases occur throughout the world, and specifically in North America, Europe and the U.K., and the proven and technically recoverable reserves indicated. The current importance of oil and gas from shale and tight sands to the U.S. economy currently will also be discussed, and how this will change over the next decades.

He will also talk about the complex processes for drilling and production of oil and gas from shale and tight sands by hydraulic fracturing (
