KGV Gateway Drainage Project

Over the period 11th - 30th May 2013, the groundwork at the entrance to the King George V (KGV) playing field in Lostwithiel was modified to improve its drainage and reduce flooding caused by heavy rainfall.


The KGV Gateway Drainage Project, led by Rotarian and Past President Walter Gubbins, involved laying hardcore in the gateway and installing drainage pipes in the surrounding area.  It is envisaged that these changes will allow the extended use of the playing field to the benefit of the whole community of Lostwithiel.

The work included setting up security fencing, clearing topsoil, receiving and levelling construction waste, digging land drain trenches, installing drainage pipes, refilling the trenches, receiving and levelling gravel at the entrance and on the pathway, reinstating the topsoil and grass seeding the surrounding area, refurbishing the entrance rainwater channels and installing new entrance fencing.

As a result, access to the KGV playing field has been greatly improved and the likelihood of future community activity being cancelled due to poor weather will be significantly reduced.
