Rotary GB&I President visits Burton to present the 2013 Football Trophy

Burton Rotary Club has initiated a new under 12s football competition open to Rotary sponsored teams from all across England.

The 2013 competition took place on Sunday 4th August from 9am until 4pm at St George's Park, the National Football Centre.

The President of Rotary in Britain and Ireland, Nan McCreadie, the first lady President of Rotary GB&I, attended the competition and presented the trophy and certificates to all the young footballers. District Governor Peter Moralee and Immediate PDG Dave Ashley were also present. President Nan was assisted in the presentations by Rory Delap, the new Burton Albion player and former Republic of Ireland, Stoke City, Derby County, Carlisle, Sunderland and Barnsley player.

Our local area was represented by 2 teams from Burton upon Trent, Outwoods Eagles and Rolleston Black both sponsored by Burton Rotary Club.

The teams played 5-a-side on the David Beckham Pitch.

The final was contested by Eckington Juniors (sponsored by Bredon Hill RC) and Preston City (sponsored by Preston Amounderness RC.)  Preston City emerged winners by 1-0 in a closely fought match and and thoroughly deserved to lift the trophy.
