The Rotary amble around Durham

The Lecture Begins

No, the title is quite right.  Wednesday's event this month was an amble around Durham market place with our local history expert, member Frank Davison expounding on some aspects of the history of the city.  An enlarged group of "amblers" (21) met at the equestrian statue at 6:30pm to be regaled with Frank's very erudite and well expressed exposition on the history, initially of the city and later of the market place and its buildings.  For most of the time he was accompanied by an oriental gentleman singing hymns - something with which Frank coped with aplomb. An enthralled audience, including several passers-by heard about Neptune, the Pant, St. Nicholas's church, the Town Hall, Lord Londonderry, Sir John Duck, and the original gentlemen's toilets!

With the onset of rain came salvation in the form of a respectable accountant (and our treasurer) with a key to his nearby offices
