PRESS RELEASE Following the devastating disaster in the Philippines, The Rotary Club of Congleton sprung into action and have already funded one fantastic AquaBox which will provide a large family with facilities for safe drinking water, basic hygiene and eating facilities, self maintenance equipment, shelter and hope. These fabulous sturdy AquaBoxes contain a wide variety of every day essentials, such as cooking pots, plates, cups, utensils, soap, toothpaste, plus an Aqua Filter water purification unit capable of producing 18,000 litres of water, enough water for a family of six for well over eighteen months. Being made of strong plastic, even the box itself can be used as a small table, seat or even an infant's cot. In a disaster the lack of, or disruption to, a safe water supply or sanitation, creates an ideal breeding-ground for water-borne disease. Cholera and typhoid are the most virulent of these but they are not the whole story. Often the problem can be a simple infection causing diarrhoea and leading to dehydration, particularly in the very young. Water-Aid, a charity committed to the provision of long-term water supplies, estimates that 25,000 children die every day from the effects of drinking polluted water. AquaBox can play a vital part in minimising the after effects of disaster. An AQUABOX has two functions: It is filled with a selection of useful humanitarian aid (hardware and hygiene items). It also contains an Aqua Filter (based on well proven micropore technology) that will provide sufficient drinking and general washing water. The AQUABOX system has been exhaustively tested by an independent body proving it to be exceptionally effective in providing clean water and meeting all WHO standards Since the idea of Aquabox was born in 1990, tens of thousands of these fantastic kits have been sent around the world to help the survivors of natural disaster and war. Most recently, global Rotary Clubs have supported humanitarian projects following the devastating effects of hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes and many more heartbreaking events. Our plan is to continue sending Aqua Boxes to those less fortunate than ourselves but need your help to do so. Please help us to support others. For details on how to donate to this worthy cause, please visit our website www.congletonrotary.co.uk, or send your kind donations, addressed and payable to the Rotary Club of Congleton, either to our shop in Capitol Walk, or care of Congleton Golf Club, Biddulph Rd, Congleton, CW12 3LZ. A fully equipped AquaBox is on display in our Capitol Walk shop window, where you are invited to view the items sent to disaster areas, and see for yourself how superb these kits really are. THINK OF THOSE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, SHOCKED AND DISORIENTATED, PERHAPS COLD, PERHAPS GRIEVING, WHO WILL AT LEAST HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DRINK CLEAN, SAFE WATER FROM THE AQUABOXES WHICH YOU HAVE PROVIDED. Thank you
