Young Chef Competition 2013-2014

Local Round of Rotary Young Chef Competition organised by Fleet Rotary won by Court Moor student

On 3rd December eight pupils from three Fleet Schools - Calthorpe Park, Court Moor and St Nicholas Schools, battled it out in the local round of the Rotary national Young Chef competition for under 17 year olds. The winner Ben Acott, aged 14 from Court Moor School, now goes on to take part in the Rotary District heats early in 2014. Ben, whose winning menu was Risotto with salmon and prawns accompanied by shaved courgettes in a lemon dressing, followed by lemon tart with meringue, said the hardest thing was judging the time in which everything had to be done. Runner up, only 1 point behind was Bethan Clunie (14) from St Nicholas school. Third place went to Annie James (14) also from St Nicholas school. Some competitors said they had practised cooking their dishes up to four times at home. This competition is organised by Rotary clubs throughout UK. Last year over 1,500 competitors took part country wide and the National winner was Anushka Patel from St Nicholas School. The competition aims to help young people develop cookery and presentation skills, encourage healthy eating options as well as proving their organisational skills and the ability to cope in a demanding situation.
