Club Meeting ~ Bill Jones

Tue, Jan 14th 2014 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Bill Jones spoke about life in a Polaris submarine on patrol, and Alastair Wilson proposed the vote of thanks.

President Graham Smith welcomed twelve other members, and circulated a sheet for attendance at the Helensburgh Garelochside club's Burns Night in the Rosslea Hall Hotel, Rhu, on Monday January 27. It will be circulated again at next week's meeting.

The meeting discussed a request by the Rotary Club of Campbeltown that the club second their motion to the District Council calling for District Conferences to be self-financing and not require a donation from District 1230 funds. It was agreed unanimously to second the motion.

Retired RN Commander Bill Jones gave a very entertaining talk about his days as an officer on patrol in a Polaris submarine, describing the traditions, the pastimes and the humour involved in beating boredom while spending many weeks under the sea without knowing where the submarine was. Alastair Wilson proposed the vote of thanks.

The weekly raffle for a whisky miniature, currently Henry the Eighth Scotch Whisky, was won by Douglas Dow.
