Club Meeting ~ Club and District Restructuring

Tue, Apr 8th 2014 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

A discussion took place on restructuring the club committees for the next rotary year, and on RIBI proposals to restructure Districts.

President Graham Smith welcomed twelve other members, and introduced a discussion on Club and District restructuring.

President-elect Bill Deans said that there was a case for restructuring the club committees because of the fall in membership, and said that the current practice is to replace the Club Council with a Club Board, which would have fewer members.

Secretary Donald Fullarton suggested that the Club Service Committee should be abolished, with its functions going to the Board, which would also consider recommendations from the service committees. He proposed that there should be three service committees: Community and Vocational, International and Foundation, and Youth Services.

There was general approval, and the Secretary was asked to prepare a draft 'Officers and Committees' sheet based on the current membership.

President Graham introduced a discussion on District Restructuring. As part of an Rotary GB&I proposal to reduce the number of its Districts to 19, it was being suggested that Districts 1230 and 1020 (broadly the Borders) should merge. After discussing the pros and cons, members agreed unanimously that the club should oppose this merger.

The weekly raffle for a whisky miniature was won by Gordon Burgess.
