Club Meeting ~ No speaker

Tue, Apr 22nd 2014 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

There was no arranged speaker, but David Arthur gave a brief talk about the thinking behind his new book.

President Graham Smith welcomed nine other members. Adam Muggoch paid tribute to the hospitality shown by members of Helensburgh and District Camera Club to contestants, their parents, and rotarians at last Tuesday's club prizegiving, which was also the prizegiving for the Rotary Young Photographer competition.

The Camera Club judges presented their own award for the overall winner to junior (7-10) category winner Olivia Heathcote of St Joseph's Primary School. The senior (14-17) winner was Lawrence Maidment of Hermitage Academy, intermediate (11-13) Mollie Gear of Luss Primary School, junior runner-up Evelyn Dennison of Luss, and junior third Orla Greig of St Joseph's. They all received medals and cash prizes, and Lawrence, Mollie and Olivia go through to the District 1230 Final.

The president asked for, and received, several volunteers to help at the Helensburgh Garelochside club's Citizen of the Year Awards in the Victoria Hall on Monday from 6.30-8.30pm.

With no speaker organised, David Arthur stepped into the breach with a talk about the family and other research which went into his newly-published book 'An Avenue In Time' and the positive reaction he had already received. It can be downloaded from Amazon for Kindles, or signed copies can be bought directly from him. His reward for stepping into the breach was to win the weekly raffle for a whisky miniature.
