Club Meeting ~ ENABLE/RYLA

Bernie Johnston spoke about the charity ENABLE, and Bill Deans proposed the vote of thanks. Lewis Scobie and Shane Callaghan, the Route 81 Youth Club boys selected for the RYLA course, attended with Youth Club leader Michelle MacDonald.


President Graham Smith welcomed Bernie Johnston of ENABLE, Garelochside club president Brian Blackwell and past president Colin Shannon, Route 81 Youth Leader Michelle MacDonald and successful Rotary Youth Leadership Award candidates Shane Callaghan and Lewis Scobie, and ten other club members.

The two 15 year-olds introduced themselves, described the voluntary work they are involved in, and spoke of their pleasure at being selected by the respective clubs to attend the RYLA camp at Auchengillan from July 5-11. They promised to return later in the year to speak about their experiences at the camp.

Bernie Johnston, a former Polaroid executive who has worked for ENABLE for 12 years, described her current job, managing all the ENABLE services in the Helensburgh, Lochgilphead and Campbeltown area. This includes working with the Route 81 Youth Club, the Helensburgh branch of ENABLE, Key Housing, and designing personal services for people so that they are not reliant on a care manager.
