Collecting For the Philippines disaster

IN RESPONSE to the devastation in the Philippines, Rotarians have been busy raising funds to provide much needed aid.

A collection by Roborough Rotary Club at Tesco raised over 590, enough to fund a whole ShelterBox, for people affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

Other activities included a collection at Plymouth Albion by Plympton Rotary Club, which raised around 375.

At Plymouth Argyle, with the help of other Rotary and Lions Clubs including eight members from Plymouth Rotary Club, around 1,100 was raised.

Phil Greenwood of Roborough Rotary Club said: We are really pleased with the support that Club members and the Plymouth community has provided to local charity Shelterbox.

Thanks to all these donations the Shelterbox teams have been able to reach some of the worst affected areas of the Philippines, including Cebu and the remote Bantayan Island, providing vulnerable families with lifesaving aid.

Activities of the Roborough Club are just a small part of fundraising activities to help the Philippines going on in and around Plymouth.

Plymouth Mayflower Rotary Club have raised over 2,500 and are still counting from various store collections, and Saltram Rotary Clubs total from store and street collections and various private donations stands at around 6,500.
