Weaver Wander

Weaver Wander still on course

The 2014 Weaver Wander Charity Classic and Sports Car run is to go ahead despite the sudden and untimely death of its founder and main organiser Rotarian Fred Bowers.

A two day event had been planned and although the car run will take place on Saturday 5 July, the Static Display, Auto Jumble and Classic Car Auction originally planned for the following day has been cancelled.

Prime organisers of the Saturday event are members of the Rotary Club of Crewe and Nantwich Weaver. They will be supported by members of the Rotary Club of Nantwich, who were originally going to run the Sunday event.

In reaching their decision, members of both clubs felt that Fred would have wished the main fund raising Saturday event to go ahead as in previous years, whereas the Sunday event was being held for the first time and therefore to some extent could be regarded as experimental.

A Rotary spokesperson said 'To date, over 20,000 pounds has been raised for charities by the Weaver Wander, a true testimony to the generous spirit and all the hard work put in by Fred. We are pleased that this year's event is going ahead in his honour'.

Classic cars and sports cars of all ages will set out from Reaseheath College and will be parading through the town square from 10.00 am, before setting off on a 100-mile navigation run through Cheshire and neighbouring counties.

This non-timed navigation route includes a halfway lunch halt where the presentation of the 'Tub' Reynolds award for the best 'spirit of the event' will take place and where the crews can enjoy some splendid surroundings before returning to Reaseheath College. It is hoped many of those taking part will be in period dress.

It promises to be a truly memorable event for those taking part and for the many spectators who will see the parade of cars coming through the centre of Nantwich.

Charities to benefit from this year's event are The Teenage Cancer Trust, Cheshire Academy of Integrated Sports and Arts and Alzheimer'sSociety. www.weaverwander.com
