The standards of many of the entrants inspired the judges. We were also impressed by the thorough and careful selection of individual applicants by employers, which in turn made selection of the finalists at interview a very enjoyable but challenging task”. In also congratulating the winners, guest speaker Robert Eardley, commented on the challenges faced by young people leaving school or college today compared with the days when he became an apprentice in Rolls-Royce. But just as he built up his own motor retail and servicing business through sheer determination and ambition, such progress can still be achieved by outstanding young people such as those receiving the awards this evening.
