President David Paterson welcomed members to the Friday meeting.  There will be two visits by the steam engine Duchess of Sutherland to Stirling Station on Sunday 14^th.  The Duchess was designed by Sir William Stanier for the LMS railway and is currently the most powerful steam loco active on the UK main line.

Sandy Leven then went on to deliver a talk on Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, where his son is a civil engineer. Dubai is the most populous city and emirate within the U.A.E..  It is located on the south east coast of the Persian Gulf and is one of the seven emirates which make up that country.  Dubai also hosts the Emirates airline, one of the biggest and fastest growing on the planet, having recently ordered 140 additional Boeing 777xs, as well as increasing their A380 fleet to 49 aircraft.  The Dubai airline hub even features a terminal exclusively devoted to the A380.
