A visit to the new Inverclyde Academy

Thu, Feb 5th 2009 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

The members of the Gourock and Greenock Rotary Clubs gathered at the new Inverclyde Academy at 6.30pm ready for a grand tour of the new school. After a brief introduction by Ian Fraser, Corporate Director of Education and Social Care, the party was split into three groups each with a guide. Off they set following three different routes.  A very full and fascinating journey ensued.

The overall standard was very impressive and the standard of detailing was equally so.  The spaciousness and airiness of the buildings was immediately apparent.  The kitting out of the various classes and activities areas was most impressive.  For example there was a kitchen specially created and fitted out to facilitate mass catering.  So, if a large party was to be fed, all the facilities were there to handle it.  This would have been the envy of some professional catering establishments!

Alas, space does not permit a full appreciation of the visit. Suffice it to say all present were very impressed.

Following this the Gourock members returned to the Royal Gourock Yacht Club for a hearty meal.  This was to be the last meal prepared for us by Ellen Cole, the cook, who was leaving.  Following a belly-buster of steaks and fried scampi and various gateaux etc., a presentation was made to Ellen to thank her for past service and to wish her all the best for the future.
