Art Deco and the 1920's are intrinsically linked - with much of Southport being built in this period the town has many fine examples of the style that we may now take for granted -  at the recent viisit to the Mersey Tunnel Building in Liverpool for example, 

Keith Hick gave a  very detailed and interesting  talk tonight on how the principles of the Art Deco movement have influenced our surroundings in the 20th/21st centuries. He  covered all areas of the inflence - from artists such as Tamara de Lempika and Erte, to buildings such as The Chrysler Building and The Empire State Building in New York, to more local buildings such as the Garrick Theatre in Southport, Birkdale and Hillside Golf Clubs and many houses and other buildings in Southport. The style of many forms of transport - Sir Nigel Gresley train designs, ocean liners and aircraft. Even today the style is still at the forefront of architechtural design - just look at the new casino and Ramada Hotel, built in Southport in 2005 - 2008.
