Barrow Rotary Crown Green Bowling Tournament

Roy Moxham won the Barrow Rotary Club Bowls Shield with a 21-16 victory over Gareth Jones in the final.

Jones started well, getting the first four points on the board. Moxham didn’t take the lead until 11-10 and then he pulled away for victory on the Coop Bowling Club green last Sunday.

Moxham beat Billy Harding in their semi-final, edging clear from 8-8 to win 21-15.

He beat Kevin Toal 21-14 in the first round and then was given a tough game by reigning title holder Billy Thompson who set the pace until Moxham levelled at 15-all and then pulled away for a 21-17 success.

Jones had a tough quarter-final against Dave Kent but from 18-all Jones got the necessary three extra points. He then beat Danny Rogers 21-16 in their semi-final.

The prizes were presented by Barrow Rotary Club president Ted Fenton who thanked sponsors Edmundson Electrical, Deltawaite, MODUflow Fan Systems Ltd and Cumbria Damp Proofing.

He also thanked the Coop club for use of their facilities and Dave Pedley for organising the event.
