Club Meeting 1pm — Gordon Burgess

Tue, Sep 30th 2014 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Gordon Burgess was the speaker, and Alastair Wilson proposed the vote of thanks.

President Bill Deans chaired the meeting which was attended by 14 Rotarians.

Gordon Burgess gave a very interesting talk, covering several of his distinguished ancestors who all carried the same name, John Muir.

The earliest of these left Scotland in 1849 bound for North America, where he built a successful business exploiting the abundant natural resources of the west coast, mainly timber. Gordon contrasted this career path with that of another John Muir who had also left Scotland for North America in 1849, and became famous for his work in protecting the natural world.

The vote of thanks was given by Alastair Wilson, and the weekly draw for a whisky miniature was won by Adam Muggoch.
