2014 Rotary Final at St George's Park

The 2014 Final

The 2014 National Rotary Football Trophy

Inter District under 12s 5-a-side Football Competition
Saturday 19th July 2014

The Rotary Club of Burton upon Trent hosted the second Rotary Inter District Under 12's 5-a-side Football Tournament at St George's Park having held the first Rotary event for young people to compete as teams there last year.

Thirteen teams from the 1800 Rotary Clubs that make up the 27 Districts of Rotary GB&I (Rotary Clubs of Great Britain & Ireland) travelled from as far afield as Edinburgh, London and Devon.

Playing on the David Beckham Pitch the tournament got off to a wet start (fortunately we did not need our contingency plans) but the teams played their parts well and last year's winners Preston City reached the semi-finals along with Teversall FC representing Rotary 1220, the home District, Potters Bar and Brick Juniors from Liverpool. Ian Storey-Moore, former Manchester United and Burton Albion player, presented both the winners and runners ups with certificates.

Despite the weather, the enthusiasm of all the teams shone through along with the high individual skill of some of the players, befitting of the venue. A great day out was had by the youngsters, parents and supporters alike.  All thank you to St George's Park Community Development Team for their support in helping organise the event again.

The local press were present together with many DGs past and present and a raffle of Wembley tickets on behalf of Barton Gardens Festival raised £194 and the winner was Mr J Weil of Church Broughton (the one and only).
