Rotary Youth Speaks Competition 2017

The annual public speaking competition for Primary Schools in the Cottingham Cluster took place on the 20th June 2017 at Westfield School. Ten pupils took part. They were aged between 9 and 11 years, and from five schools. For the first time all the competitors were girls!

Each speaker spoke on the subject of their choice for between 3 and 4 minutes. Three judges selected the winner, Emma Smith from Bacon Garth School, whose subject was ‘ Should all children learn sign language?’

She received a certificate and a voucher, and the school £100 and a trophy.

The competition is an offshoot from the National Secondary schools Youth Speaks Competition which takes place in February. The local event for Hull and East riding schools involves up to 12 schools.
