The talk at the meeting of 23/9/14 was given by Police Community Support Officer Nick Jarvis. He had spent much of his early working life in horticulture, including a stint in Argentina. He has now been serving as a PCSO for eight years (of the organisation’s 11 year history).
A PCSO does not have the same powers as a police officer, but spends far more of their time ‘on the beat’. They can require an individual’s name and address, detain people and wait for assistance, seize alcohol in a designated area, and they also have traffic powers.
There are currently 21 police officers in Nantwich and 4 PCSO’s. Nick pointed out that Nantwich is not a high crime area but time is taken dealing with the following:
- Public order on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights.
- Disputes between neighbours.
- Domestic disputes.
- Traffic offences.
