The orchestra continued to play as the Titanic sank
John Balls gave an overview about the orchestra on the titanic.
At our meeting on Tuesday, 30th September, 2014, John Balls returned to the Club for a second time, to talk to us about two of his great interests, namely the music of Sir Arthur Sullivan and the Titanic. John is a member of the Arthur Sullivan Society and also the Norwich Gilbert and Sullivan Society and is a great lover of the operettas composed by those two men. So far as the Titanic is concerned, John explained that the orchestra consisted of just eight musicians but they often split into two groups, a quintet and a trio, and played in separate venues aboard the ship. Sullivan
