Three Rotarians: Patrick Strainge, Dion Hickin and Glyn Rees adopted a 'hands-on' approach to Rotary Service when they assisted locally based charity AdventurePlus clear a lakeside area of trees shrubs and reeds to give easier access when launching canoes. The site at Windmill Farm Conference Centre Clanfield is base for the many Holidays and Training Courses run by Adventure Plus
In the words of their Patron, Bear Gryllis "Adventure Plus is one of the most exciting charities around for inspiring young people to get out there, grab life & live boldly!"
Assisted by two staff members the three Rotarians 'got stuck in' as Glyn Rees reports: "With the help of Patrick's chainsaw we managed to clear a large area in three hours and left a pile of logs for the woodcraft team to make a ramp. I then also trimmed the hedgerow to make access for the van and trailers to get on the site. The weather was superb especially for the end of October and a very enjoyable morning was had by all.
When the lads got back to Adventure Plus their main comment was about seeing an elderly gentleman strimming whilst smoking a pipe!"
more took place on a warm sunny day which encouraged large crowds to spill out onto the streets to watch the 'Heroes and Villains' pass by in the Carnival Procession.
