(Change of venue to Stoke Bruerne)
Meet at the car park of Navigation Inn, close to the village centre, where we will be having lunch
10.15am for a 10.30 start
We'll leave the pub car park at 10.30am for a 3.5 mile walk along the towpath and then over to Shutlanger and return on a circular route. Mainly via gates or gaps, but there may be a stile or two as we navigate the local field paths.
David Harrop
What a really delightful walk on a great day, across some of the County's typical scenery.
The group of eight ardent walkers and Jack met their Walk Master, David "it's going to be a delightful morning" at the Navigation Inn. The three ladies were not sure they could complete the 3.5 miles, particularly Val who was more that a little apprehensive. But David reassured her and volunteered to carry her if she couldn't finish.
We set off along the towpath and crossed over the Grand Union Canal by the main Stoke Bruerne bridge. We left the village and walked towards Alderton. It was about now that David realised he had not done his Health and Safety talk. After passing the Stoke Bruerne Nature Reserve we walked along a splendid avenue of Lombardy poplar trees and across a couple of reedy streams. It was great to be out in the Northamptonshire country side and to be accompanied by numerous bouncing lambs frisking in the sunlight.
As the day got warmer coats were removed and sleeves rolled up. After following the winding steam and crossing the footbridge we headed for Shutlanger. We were more that half way and time for some sweeties. From the village we walked across some more fields and down towards the mouth of Blisworth tunnel. It was now only a short stroll back to Stoke Bruerne along the Grand Union Canal to the Navigation Inn where we all enjoyed a most pleasant lunch.
Val was awarded the "Walker of the Month" as she was able to complete the walk despite her earlier reservations.
