Witney Rotary Club has supported the work of Shelterbox since the scheme was first launched, each year funding one or more boxes which can then be stored in strategically placed warehouses around the world ready to be rushed to the site of the next disaster.
Each box costs approximately £600. They're constucted from green plastic with a lid, the contents are tailored to provide basic survival facilities providing immediate assistance to victims in the aftermath of a disaster. Among the contents is a disaster relief tent for an extended family, plus blankets, groundsheets, water storage and filtration equipment, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, a children's activity pack and other vital items.
The club has always responded to major disasters by organising emergency collections to purchase a much larger number of ShelterBoxes. Examples include the Asian Tsunami, the Earthquake in Haiti and the Typhoon that devestated the Philippines
