Leo Buccahan to talk on Peace Fellows

Leo Buccahan will give a presentation to the Club on 25-3-15 on the Peace Fellows course at Bradford.

Leo is a Rotary Peace Fellow, one of eleven, in this year's class at Bradford University.  He is from the island of Luzon in The Phillipines and is sponsored by the RC of Baguio North.

Leo is the eldest of seven children, his mother recently retired as a primary school teacher and his father is a  subsistence farmer in the Malabing Valley. Leo is 37 and has a BA in English Literature and an MA in Education. His parents have put all their children through higher education, quite an achievement.

Leo has already spent three years in Mozambique doing development work with VSO including teaching English in secondary schools and another three years in New Mexico working with young people on a Navajo Reservation as well as other projects in SE Asia. His goal is to work with the UN or other NGO to try and achieve sustainable development and peace through education.

Liz and I are his Rotary hosts whilst he is in the UK and he visits us from time to time. He loves The Dales and Lake District as well as National Trust properties.

I am sure Leo will give us an interesting presentation on the Rotary funded Peace Studies course at Bradford so can I urge you to attend the meeting on 25th. of March, at The Tempest Arms, Elslack.
