81st Charter Night 2015

The Rotary Club of Middleton held their 81st charter night on Friday 6 February. The event was attended by over 60 guests and saw an evening of award giving and entertainment take place.

Club President Keith Trinnaman said: It was a really good event. We had about 60 guests altogether and it was generally a fantastic night.

As part of the evening, Rotarian Lee Wolf received a Paul Harris award for outstanding services to the club. Mr Wolf has been a member of the Rotary Club for two years.

Speaking about receiving the award he said: It was a shock and I think I am still in shock now. I didnt expect it at all because it is an award that you see people getting after having been with the club for 20-30 years and I have just finished my second year.

Mr Wolf joined the Rotary Club to get involved with community and international projects. He added: It has certainly been a busy two years. Very busy indeed. The year [2013] when the Christmas float was stolen was an extremely busy year. I plan to stay in Rotary for as long as possible.

Mr Trinnaman added: Lee has only been with the Rotary Club for two years but he has done so much good work in those two years that we thought he was deserving of the award.

It was also announced that Rotarian John Brooker is to receive an award from the Rotary of Great Britain and Ireland as part of the Rotary Champions of Change Awards.

The Champion of Change Awards will honour those unsung heroes who work tirelessly to champion change, do good and enhance lives by their initiatives.

Mr Trinnaman said: We announced that John is going to be made a Champion of Change so that was nice to announce. He didnt actually pick up the award during the evening but we got to announce the news and it was really good news to announce.

Mr Brooker will be receiving his award for recognition of the work he has undertaken at the Mikoroshoni School in Kenya.

Speaking about the award Mr Brooker said: I am very honoured to be getting this award. From what I understand there are 12 awards altogether. Six for projects in the UK and six for international projects and my award is for an international project.

Mr Brooker joined the Rotary club after being invited to a meeting of the Rotary Club of Bahari in Mombasa and has been a member for 12 years.

He will pick up his award at a special ceremony at the House of Lords in March.

He added: I am very much looking forward to the ceremony. I shall be going along with Stuart Sawle, the Rotary Club District Governor. He was also the person who nominated me for the award.

The charter night was a fantastic night and was one of the best charter nights we have had.
