Danish Visit 2014

Danish Visit-19th-22nd September 2014

 As you will be aware, the ‘official’ visit from Velje Nord R C  did not take place this year, but a few of us invited  a number  from the Danish Club for an informal visit. We were keen to maintain out contacts with our long-standing friends, and also leave the door open for possible future exchanges with our Twin Club.

Thus Peter and Liz Flarup (hosted by Gerald and Joyce Wright), Hanne Kortholm (hosted by John and Margaret Jackson, and Jan and Annette Casperson (hosted by John and Angela Moffat) all came to stay with us on the above dates. Unfortunately Bent Holm and Margarethe Mortensen  could not manage that weekend, but visited Janet and David Threlfall  at a later date.

The emphasis of this visit was on fellowship, and this was achieved mainly by a relaxing time with host entertaining, get-togethers, and pub-lunches. We also visited local centres of interest, such as Dovedale, Ashbourne and Calke Abbey (Derbyshire Show and WW1 Commemoration)

 We did arrange one semi-formal occasion with a dinner at the Winery, where we invited other Club members, past and present, who had been involved in past exchanges. Also our Guests attended our Club meeting on the Monday before leaving to return home.   Jan Casperson presented greetings from the Vejle Club, but in place of the club banner (which we already have), he presented aprons from his Cookery School to our President and the hosts (see photograph)!

Thus we hope we’ve maintained our close relationship with the Vejle Club , and maybe others from Burton can join us in our next visit in 2 years time (as already invited!)
