The social evening on 18th August took the form of a tribute to Past President Frank Gorka, who with his wife Irene is moving to be nearer the family in Sidmouth, Devon.
Frank is Polish, and during the war he was arrested as a boy by the Germans. He eventually escaped and made a torturous journey through Europe and arrived in Italy to join up with the Polish forces. After the war he came to the UK. He settled in the Manchester area, married , raised a family and became a very successful business man. He came to Llandudno in the mid seventies to retire. Some hope.
During his residency in Llandudno he has made a massive contribution to the benefit of the town. He was involved in the early days of the Victorian Extravaganza, owned a shop opposite the Town Hall and purchased several properties. Latterly he was the proprietor of the Rest and Be Thankful café on the Great Orme
He joined the Llandudno Rotary Club in 1977 ( he had been a Rotarian since1968) and served as President in 1998/99. In recognition for his services to the local community as well as Rotary, in 2013 he was awarded a Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship.
President Alan Guinn, on behalf of the club, presented Frank with a memento of Llandudno and Irene with a bouquet of flowers .
