RIBI Young Musician 2015 - Regional Final
Sun 29th March 2015
RIBI Young Musician Regional Final in Glasgow
SCOTLAND AND THE NORTH EAST OF ENGLAND
SUNDAY 29th MARCH 2015
The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
This year, the Young Musician Regional Final was held at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow, where DG John Waddell, D1230, welcomed the competitors and audience members. 15 young people, representing Rotary Districts throughout Scotland and the North East of England, had the experience of performing in this prestigious venue.
This was a most enjoyable afternoon during which an outstanding level of technical musical talent was witnessed. The four candidates from D1030 - Caitlin Bannister, Jasmine Elliott, Andrew Hedley and Rosie Shaw - all gave excellent performances in front of a 'full-house'. We are grateful to Alan Oyston who was piano accompanist for Caitlin, Andrew and Rosie; and it was also good to see the support from our area lead by DGE Terry Long & Marion, and PDG Tony Fairley and Cynthia.
The adjudicators faced a most difficult task in determining the winners and commented on the extremely high standard of all involved. However, in a very closely fought contest, they made unanimous decisions in both the Instrumentalist and Vocalist categories and awarded places in the RIBI Final to Iain Clarke, a pianist sponsored by the Rotary Club of Isle of Arran, D1230; and Lucy Hughes, a vocalist sponsored by the Rotary Club of Coatbridge, Airdrie & Monklands, D1020.
Both will now go forward to the National Final on Saturday 16th May in Darwen, Lancashire.
Congratulations to them and to the rest of the competitors who were all 'winners' on the day.
