26.03015 STEVE BEASANT

Today's speaker was Councillor Steve Beasant who is the prospective Liberal Democrat candidate for Great Grimsby.

Steve was born in Grimsby and apart from being a councillor his passion is genealogy and is tracing his family history. Currently he is trying to locate two cousins.

His love of politics developed as a child in the family setting.

As a young man he went to Canada for a new life but returned to Grimsby because he was homesick and on his return he  married.

In 1998 he had a life changing experience when he had an epileptic fit. It took a little while for it to be controlled, but it prompted a change of life  for him.He attended York Univesity and obtianed a degree in politics.

Steve has represented the East Marsh since 2003 and is a very active Ward Councillor. Not only delivering  newsletters ,bulletins and running the ward surgery, but he has a passion for getting involved with the community, talking to constituents etc.He said that he loves the area and would not want any other job. Forget Skint, (and other programmes) the people of the East Marsh are decent hard working and earn an honest living.

Steve does mind getting his hands dirty, he has swept the streets and taken part in  litter picks (I can vouch for that because the Civic Society did a litter in that area). He said that there was possibility that the Freeman Street flats could be saved rather demolished.

Steve is on Twitter and Face book and gets many hits. He is of the opinion that this media will be more effective in the general election than other media.

Best wishes to him in his endeavors.
