OUT MEETING - Rampside Mini Golf

Wed, Jun 29th 2016 at 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

I picked up Colin(Scraggs) at 5-15pm on Wednesday 29th June to go down to the Rampside Golf Course

It had been a really wet day previously but we arrived in beautiful evening sunshine, to find there was no one else there. However John Holgate and George Cubiss turned up, so we had a two ball foursome ( no, it’s not a dance!).
George was a bit of a dark horse as he said he was right handed but played golf left handed. He showed this to advantage on the first hole as he put his ball close to the green ( I thought “ we’ve got a ringer here”). Our round carried on with varied success on both sides. Colin, John and myself mis-hit quite a few shots with George being consistently quite good.
This showed up in the score after the fifth as George and John were four and a half to Colin and me with just a half having lost 4 holes and equalled one.
There were a few amusing incidents with balls going into puddles and long grass as well as bunkers and other such obstacle. I hit one “on the nose” so to speak and it disappeared over the trees! Then on the fifth I mis-hit my drive into the bushes, went to look for my ball and found three more!
There was a late flurry by Colin and myself on the seventh and eighth, winning them both. Then George played a good shot at the last hole and we didn’t catch up.
Our final score was 6-3 to John and George.
After a really enjoyable game, we then proceeded to Crofters for a lovely meal, bantering with the rest of the crowd about not playing the game.
An evening of fellowship followed, a combination of good food and libation, which was greatly enjoyed by everyone, especially by guests brought by some members (emphasising the importance of encouraging new members at such occasions).
Another successful Out Meeting organised by Mike Hoad.
