Our Water Project

Our club's support for the village of PhirPhire was started by PP Don Jacques some years ago when he led a project to supply school furniture. I was fortunate enough to be part of the club team who visited the school in the wake of this.

During this visit we built a wall and gates in front of the school. These have  proved invaluable during the recent earthquakes. The water project, which aims to provide water direct to the village, was conceived during a meeting with our colleagues at the Rotary Club of Damauli. A steering group was formed and we began raising funds so that we could apply for a global grant.

A film of the project has been produced which has been a great aid in the fund raising effort. Our target was reached 12 months ago! Unfortunately there have been some delays, due to problems beyond our control, not least of which are the recent earthquakes!

We hope to commence building soon, when the necessary local labour becomes available. In the meantime we have continued to support the village school and medical post, where we have added a maternity unit. We have also paid for a European style bathroom in a trekking lodge so that the villagers can welcome paying guests.

If you would like further details or to arrange a visit by a project team member please contact us.
