Summary

The activities day was attended by 26 students from the Interact clubs of Bodmin, which split into 2 teams, the Bods and the Mins, Penryn and Humphry Davy (Penzance). After a competitive but fun day, Humphry Davy were the winners of the first Bodmin and Lostwithiel Interact Challenge Cup. This was the first time that Interactors from Cornwall have met like this, and it probably won't be the last. Thank you and well done to everyone involved.

Full Story

Twenty six teenage Rotarians from across Cornwall got together at the weekend to make new friends, share experiences and have fun. The young Rotarians, aged from 12-14 years, are all members of Interact clubs.  Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people aged between 12 and 18 with the main purpose to provide opportunity for young people to work together in a world organisation dedicated to service and international understanding. The youngsters were from Bodmin, Penryn and Humphry Davy (Penzance) Schools.

The first Cornish Interact Rally, sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Lostwithiel and Bodmin, was held at the Tor View Activity Centre on Bodmin Moor, courtesy of Neil and Clare Hugo. The day was filled with team activities and personal challenges, giving the youngsters the opportunity to make new friends across Cornwall. Teams scored points throughout the day for football and archery, but the greatest challenge was to erect a Rotary Shelterbox tent.  Despite the wind, one team managed the challenge in 17 minutes by applying logic and team work.

A barbeque lunch topped up the energy levels, with ingredients donated by Kittows Butchers at Par. Just before the presentations took place, Rotarian Kirstie Brown from the Rotary Club of Redruth talked to the youngsters about her experiences as a new Rotarian and explained to the assembled youngsters that by doing something for others it becomes a little bit of your heart. The clubs have been working towards helping local and international charities.

The first winners of the Bodmin and Lostwithiel Interact Challenge Trophy was Humphry Davy School from Penzance.

The youngsters declared the day a great success and are already planning another one for next year.
