What We Do

Service Above Self is the Rotary Motto and Haddington Rotary seeks to carry this out.

Over the years, Haddington Rotary has continued to support individuals and worthy causes locally, nationally and internationally. In the local community, the club continues to support a wide spectrum of activities.

In collaboration with the Rotary Club of Edinburgh, a highlight of our year is participation in a 'KidsOut' Day for children with special needs.

Help also is given to clients of The Haddington Day Centre at their Christmas festivities.

Currently, we provide assistance at events such as the East Fortune Airshow, the Haddington Agricultural Show and the East Lothian Triathlon.

Financial assistance is provided to many individuals who travel abroad for humanitarian work and every year the club is involved in fundraising for national and international causes.

The Club participates in a large range of youth activities including competitions for Challenge Enterprise and  the Rotary Youth Leadership Award. The club also makes a Citizen Award each year to the individual or individuals deemed to have made a very significant contribution to our local community.

Fundraising for international emergencies has continued throughout the Club’s history. Notable efforts in recent years have been contributions for the purchase of Shelterboxes and Waterboxes for victims of the Asian Tsunami, the Haiti Earthquake, and the Pakistan Flood Disaster.

The Club continues to participate in Rotary International’s goal to eradicate polio which remains endemic in some of Africa, India and Pakistan.  This is supported by planting purple crocuses each year as part of the Purple For Polio initiative to raise awareness and by raising funds for The Rotary End Polio Now campaign.
