On a beautiful balmy evening, the 28th Sept, 2015, a party of March Rotarians, accompanied by wives, partners, and guests, paid a visit to Flag Fen, the Bronze Age settlement discovered in 1986 by Dr Francis Prior. Our guide, Malcolm, gave us a fascinating insight on life in The Fens, over 3000 years ago. Without getting too heavy on the subject, and also admitting that 'geestimation ' played a part, as no one can be really sure, there being no written or recorded evidence upon which to base facts. It was none the less an interesting and informative experience, that everyone could appreciate. Beautifully crafted artefacts, household items, jewellery, tools and weapons aplenty were displayed. Ringing home to us, that despite our supposed sophistication today, those alive then also enjoyed, no doubt be it hard, a life with time for leisure, and the 'family' at its heart.
