Wee School makes Big Donation

After the terrible earthquake in Nepal, our head teacher, Mr Forgie challenged us to come up with an idea to raise money for the victims of the disaster. We came up with loads of great fundraising ideas, but none of them sounded right for the circumstances.

Then someone said, “Why don’t we sleep outside?” We all thought this was a great idea because hundreds of thousands of people in Nepal have to sleep out every night.

We created our own sponsor form and asked our friends and family to sponsor us. Mr Forgie booked Miltonduff village hall for us to camp at and we borrowed two big bell tents from the Fochabers Scouts to sleep in. Thank you Fochabers Scouts!

17 pupils from P5-7 participated in the camp and the lovely ladies of Miltonduff Gardening Club made us bacon rolls for breakfast. Parents and members of the community also turned up in the morning to buy bacons rolls and teas or coffees which raised even more money. A big thank you to Mrs Hyland and her gang!

When we arrived at the hall, members of the Elgin Rotary Club were there to give us a talk about their longstanding link with Nepal. They told us about their work with villages in Nepal and how they had paid for toilets and taps to be built. They showed us loads of very interesting pictures from their visit. It was a great start to our night.

We had loads of fun, playing hockey late into the evening and had loads of fun in the tents but we never forgot about the reason we were there.

Altogether we raised £1259.05! We decided to give Elgin Rotary Club the money so they could use it in their appeal for Nepal. We couldn’t have raised that much without everyone doing their bit and we hope the money will go towards helping some of the people in affected by the disaster.
