Forth Valley College Community Service Award 2015

This year the award was presented to Anne Jackson who was hailed as “Most Promising Student.”

Anne came to the College as a mature student on the Newstart Access Course in 2013. She then successfully completed the Access to Degree Studies Course and has just completed the HNC Working with Communities course. She has a place at the University of West Scotland to study Community Learning and Participation.

Throughout her time at FVC Anne has been involved in many college and fundraising events which required outstanding organisational and communication skills. Anne's contribution has consistently made a difference to learners and the. wider community and she continues to have an impact despite extreme financial obstacles and some difficult personal issues. Anne - a single mother of two, has strived to ensure her attendance at college and the completion of her course work. Since starting her learning journey in 2013 she has nurtured and encouraged many of the younger students to continue with their studies if they lacked enthusiasm or lost confidence. She has maintained supportive relationships with many of these people out-with college and has played a vital supportive, mentoring role both in her home community and within the college community.

Anne (41) from Grangemouth who graduated with an HNC in Working with Communities, said: "I feel quite surprised and overwhelmed as there were a lot of good students on the course and in the department that they could have given this award to, but am delighted to have won. My daughters are so very proud of their mother,'
