A talk from Rotarian Chris Marr

The weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy was held on July 7th at the Dean Park Hotel. President John Kilgour welcomed 25 members of the club and one guest Rotarian to the first meeting of the Rotary year.

The President reported that he attended a coffee morning recently held by St Andrews High School Interact Club. The very enthusiastic members of the club raised £500 for a teenage cancer charity. Interact clubs are based in senior schools and promote the ethos of Rotary and are sponsored by a local Rotary club. In Kirkcaldy there are three Interact clubs sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy.

John also reported that a Paul Harris Sapphire was to be awarded to long time member Tom Muir.

The main speaker was a member of the club, Chris Marr. Chris gave his vocation talk. Having spent the early part of his working career in the hospitality sector he gained qualifications on the way. Whilst still working in the sector he obtained a degree in business management from St Andrews University. Leaving the hospitality sector he set up his own business, Learning Everyday Ltd. This is a marketing consultancy, specialising in digital marketing, strategy with one to one training.  Chris said that among the reasons he joined Rotary was that it was the opportunity to meet new people, the fellowship aspect and that Rotary has a strong charitable connection. Chris spoke of his own involvement with the Colin Marr Memorial Trust.

Rotarian Sharon Hopkinson gave the vote of thanks, emphasising that the Chris had contributed greatly to club activities since he had joined.

The meeting was closed with the club being advised that the next club meeting would be held on July 14th  at the Dean Park Hotel.
