The weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy was held on February 2nd at the Dean Park Hotel. President John Kilgour welcomed 24 members of the club and three guest speakers.
The main speaker was Judith Kerr with the assistance of Patrica McAuliffe and Joyce Mitchell. These retired maths teachers demonstrated some modern teaching techniques to Rotary members, many who had probably forgotten their days at school. The days of rote learning of times tables are long gone and the demonstration of kinetic learning gave us an insight as to how teachers today engender an enthusiasm for mathematics and build an appreciation for numbers and numeracy. It was not the normal Rotary meeting but very enjoyable.
Rotarian Ron McGill gave the vote of thanks, remembering his time as a teacher and how difficult it was to build a desire for learning in youngsters.
The meeting was closed with the club being advised that the next club meeting would be an evening meeting to be held on February 9th at the Dean Park Hotel at 6pm.
