Blood Pressure Testing

Sat, Sep 5th 2015 at 9:30 am - 3:00 pm

Blaize Rotarians worked with the Stroke Association to provide free Blood Testing at the Boots Chemists in the Arndale Centre in Bradford from 10:00am to 3:00pm

Blaize members took part in the National Stroke Association and Rotary in Britain and Ireland initiative to get people to have their blood pressure checked. John Watson organised the event on behalf of Bradford Blaize in conjunction with Rotarian Lynn Rhodes-Holme who is the District 1040 officer responsible for co-ordinating these events with the Stroke Association.

Despite St. Johns Ambulance Brigade having to pull out of the event fairly late in the schedule John managed to persuade his son William who is a qualified doctor to come up from Cambridge for the day to help Lynn with the taking of the blood pressures. So our thanks go to both William and Lynn for all their efforts to make the day a success.

John wrote about the day: -

Very many thanks to all those who participated. A remarkable 93 people had their BP checked, of whom about a third were referred to their GP.

Angela Gott, the Manageress at Boots, has offered us the use of the new premises at the Westfield development, which will be opening shortly. This will have a larger pharmacy area and two purpose-built consulting rooms.

Rotarian Lynn Rhodes-Holme is to include pictures of the event in her talk at Conference this year and, hopefully, we will also obtain some ‘after-event’ publicity.

Cheers. John
