Southport Links Rotary Sponsor The Ride of the Roses
Date – Sept 6th, Time 6.15 am and a group of Rotarians from The Rotary Club of Southport Links met up at Banks Leisure Centre with members of Clatterbridge Hospital’s fund raising team to organise the car parking and to marshal the start of one of the hospital’s major fund raising events – The Ride of The Roses. This is a sponsored cycle ride covering either 50, 75 or 100 miles with the 100 mile ride started at 8.00am, the 75 mile at 9.00am and the 100 mile ride at 10.00am. The weather was good for cyclists – not too hot or too windy and the riders enjoyed a hard, but scenic ride of some of Lancashire’s most beautiful countryside, with the shorter ride taking in Salmesbury and Hoghton with the longer rides crossing the Trough of Bowland. It is too early to know how much has been raised this year, but as all of the marshalling is carried out by volunteers, such as our early rising Rotarians, you can be sure that the money raised goes to help an organisation that has helped a large number of residents of Southport.
