Paul Bayley remembers.....
Paul Bayley's Presidential year 2008 - 2009
Paul Bayley President 2008/09
Having been Chairman of Round Table a few times I did have some idea of what a year as President of Windsor and Eton Rotary Club was going to be like, but I never thought it would be as enjoyable as it was .
Being employed at Eton College allowed me to use the wonderful facilities of the College and my first meeting was in Timbralls Boys Boarding House in the presence of the District Governor and a good lunch was had by all.
We had a great night playing table tennis and shooting on the College’s rifle range with some very good shots amongst the members.
Another good evening was a very interesting talk in Eton College Library about how English is taught at the School, followed by a pub supper.
My President's weekend was held in my native Bristol, my wife and I had a great time arranging the weekend and revisiting some of our old courting haunts over 30 years ago. The weekend was a great success and great fun with a group of about 30 attending visiting all the famous sites in Bristol and having some wonderful meals.
Perhaps the highlight of my year was standing in the Quadrant of Windsor Castle with my wife one side and Prince Philip on the other watching 300 MG’s going past with one of them mine with my Father and Son in it. 900 MG’s attending and we raised over £50,000
President’s night was held at Dorney Lake and we were very lucky to fine weather with a great sunset, a good night was had by all.
As has been the norm over the years I rounded off my year escorting the Mayor around the fayre in Alexandra Gardens looking at all the stalls.
I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed my year and had a great time ensuring the members were active and enjoyed themselves which I hope they did.
It was such a good year I am President again this year..................
