The Rotary Club of Cumbernauld has an on-going commitment in supporting the development and long-term maintenance of Cumbernauld Community Memorial Peace Garden. The project has transformed an overgrown and virtually abandoned area of Cumbernauld into a community garden, commemorating the centenary of the first world war.
The Rotary Club of Cumbernauld has been instrumental in develivering the project, from the initial site clearance, through fund-raising and securing resources, to on-going maintenance of the garden. The project is a collaboration between a number of voluntary organisations including local military cadets and scouts, with key financial assistance from North Lanarkshire Council and Sanctuary Cumbernauld housing association.
Cumbernauld Community Memorial Peace Garden has recently been awarded a Keep Scotland Beautiful It’s Your Neighbourhood award, reflecting the remarkable transformation of the area and the hard work of participating groups. Plans are under development for further enhancements to this fantastic community resource.
