In January last year the Rotary Club of Jersey contacted island organisations to enquire if their purposes and activities reflected the principles behind the Rotary Peace Programme. It was stated that if the response from the organisations written to was positive, the Rotary Club would arrange a meeting of interested parties at which views could be shared on a wide range of issues.
Many organisations did respond positively and these responses were published in the Rotary Book of Peace, produced to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Liberation. Copies of the book have been presented to The Chief Minister, The Bailiff and The Lieutenant Governor, and one copy now resides in the headquarters of Rotary International in Chicago. You can access the Rotary Book of Peace online here.
The Rotary Club have now made arrangements for such a meeting with a view to learning from interested organisations what more they think might be done to reinforce the message of Jersey as a Peace Community. While the Rotary Club is happy to make the preparations for this meeting it is considered important that this is seen as a community wide endeavour with Rotary acting as a facilitator.
This meeting will feature a “brainstorming” session to identify matters which are considered to be important and relevant to the participants. If you are interested in attending please contact Rotarian Tony Allchurch through the contact link below.
