Free Eye Camp in the Village of Missa Kaswal, District Gujar Khan, Pakistan

Riaz Bhatti, of our Club, recently visited Pakistan to explore the need for a free eye care in the village of Missa Kaswal.  He approached Mr. Taleh Mehndi, Chairman of the Al-Ain Trust, about this proposal.   The Al-Ain Trust is already running a welfare Hospital, the Umeed Hospital in Chakwal, where free medical and eye treatment is provided to the poor and needy.

Rtn Fazal ur Rehman, Vice-Chairman of Al-Ain Trust, and Rtn Asif Hamadni assisted by preparing an “eye camp”.  They arranged eye doctors/specialists, medical and nursing staff for the camp and reached Rtn Riaz’s village, Missa Kaswal, on 17th January 2016.  The eye camp started at 10.30 am and more than 350 villagers with eye problems visited the camp, where competent doctors checked their eyes and provided free medicines. About 80 men and women were treated by the specialist and given free eye glasses.  They said happily that their vision was now better and that they could do their daily chores quite easily.  Some exclaimed with joy that they could now read the holy Quran.  They all prayed for the organisers, and for this noble cause.  The camp ran very successfully and came to end at 6 pm, with great satisfaction.

Riaz was very happy with this project, and he has made a video to share with his fellow Rotarians.   He was invited to the Rotary Club of Islamabad as a guest speaker on Wednesday 20th January, 2016.  In his speech he thanked all involved and admired the great effort.  He also promised to spread the news of this successful eye camp to other clubs in the UK, so that more Rotarian could become involved in similar free welfare camps in other areas.  Riaz also plans to run this eye camp on a regular basis, perhaps even monthly, assuming he can get support.
